Cluster bomb, man died, neighbor in critical condition

Kon Tum - A Nhit went to the forest and picked up a bomb and brought it home. After hitting it, the bomb exploded, killing the victim and seriously injuring his neighbor.

On November 30, the People's Committee of Ngoc Lay commune, Tu Mo Rong district, Kon Tum province said that a bomb explosion had just occurred in the area, causing 2 casualties.

The victim, Mr. A Nhit (44 years old), residing in Mang Ruong village, Ngoc Lay commune, died; and her neighbor, Ms. Y Brang (41 years old), residing in the same village, was hospitalized in critical condition.

Initial information, around 12 noon on November 29, Mr. A Nhit used a hammer to smash a bomb he found in the forest. While he was smashing, Ms. Y Brang - a neighbor - discovered it and came over to warn him. At that moment, the bomb exploded. As a result, Mr. A Nhit was hit by shrapnel in his face, chest and had both arms severed; Ms. Y Brang was injured by shrapnel in her face and had both arms severed.

Upon receiving the news, the Commune Police and local people took the victim to the Emergency Medical Station. However, A Nhit died; and Ms. Y Brang was transferred to Kon Tum Provincial General Hospital for treatment in critical condition.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Binh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Ngoc Lay Commune, Tu Mo Rong District said: "The accident was very heartbreaking, the bomb could have been a cluster bomb left over from the war."
