In December 2024, many large trucks carrying soil of unknown origin poured into the project to level the ground for the infrastructure construction of Residential Area No. 1, Quyet Thang Commune (Thai Nguyen City). These activities took place mainly at night.
In just over 3 hours, reporters recorded more than a dozen trucks following each other rumbling towards the project to dump soil into low-lying areas that needed to be leveled, then continuing to return to the mining area.
Following the trucks carrying soil, the reporter discovered the mining site near Go Moc hamlet, Quyet Thang commune (Thai Nguyen city). This location is about 2 km from the Residential Area No. 1 project.
Here, large excavators are operating at full capacity, the roar of their engines echoing throughout the area in the dead of night. The excavator buckets scrape up large areas of soil and dump them into the waiting trucks with license plates 20L - 21815, 29H - 37527.
After the containers were filled with soil, the trucks began to roll, one after another, through the residential areas. Noise, dust, and rocks scattered on the road created long trails.
Mr. Vi Van Cuong, whose house is located on Z115 road, said that the situation of trucks carrying soil has been going on since the beginning of December, mainly operating from late evening to late night.
"Not just one but many trucks, making noise like a construction site. The road is narrow, every time a vehicle passes by it is blinding, so vehicles have to pull over to the side of the road, which is very unsafe," Mr. Cuong added.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Van Chung - Vice Chairman of Quyet Thang Commune People's Committee said that this land exploitation site belongs to the land area managed by the commune and is being renovated to avoid landslides, the land is only leveled on the spot. Transporting it to another place for leveling is illegal.
"As soon as the information was received, the local authorities sent officials to the project to work and verify. However, the investor did not cooperate, saying that this was the unit's business and asked the commune not to intervene.
The locality has contacted the enterprise to request documents (project information, landfill plan - PV) but up to now the unit has not implemented it," Mr. Chung informed.
