From January 1, 2025, the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project (vertical axis) will begin returning sand to two component projects of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway (horizontal axis).

The Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway Project Phase 1 is over 188km long, passing through 4 provinces/cities: An Giang, Can Tho, Hau Giang and Soc Trang. The total investment of the project is about 44,700 billion VND. Of which, component project 1 in An Giang province is 57.2km long; component project 2 in Can Tho city is 37.2km long; component project 3 in Hau Giang province is nearly 37km long and component project 4 in Soc Trang province is 56.9km long.

Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Dang Hoang Vinh - Project Management Director, Expressway Management Board (under the Can Tho City Construction Investment Project Management Board) - investor of component project 2 - said that the project has 4 main construction packages, up to now, reaching a rate of nearly 18%. Regarding the sand filling material for the project, 7 million m3 is needed, the sand source is provided from mines in An Giang province and Tien Giang province is completing procedures.

Of which, the volume of sand qualified for use for the highway that Tien Giang province can supply is about 2.968 million m3, after survey.

An Giang province supplies about 2.3-2.4 million m3. However, a portion of sand in An Giang has been transferred to the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project, 700,000 m3.

Mr. Dang Hoang Vinh added that the unit does not know how to transfer 700,000m3 of sand and has not received any official documents from the unit. Previously, there was only a confirmation of the transfer.

The investor of component project 2 requested the People's Committee of An Giang province to consider and support the return of the volume of 700,000m3 of sand transferred from Binh Phuoc Xuan mine according to the confirmation to ensure the source of materials for the project.

The investor of component project 2 also hopes that Tien Giang province will continue to support in the process of implementing procedures for sand exploitation; continue to review the remaining mines in the province to support enough sand sources for the project.

For component project 3 in Hau Giang province, the project is divided into 2 construction packages, up to now, reaching 26% of the contract value.

Previously, implementing the Prime Minister's direction on transferring sand mines to prioritize serving the Can Tho - Ca Mau project, An Giang Provincial People's Committee transferred 500,000m3 of component project 3 to the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project.

Currently, the sand mine in An Giang province serving component 3 project has been transferred to the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project. In order to avoid interruption, Hau Giang province proposed that the Ministry of Transport coordinate with the An Giang Provincial People's Committee to direct the My Thuan Project Management Board to establish procedures to transfer the sand volume back.

Mr. Le Duc Tuan - Deputy Director of My Thuan Project Management Board - said that about the construction implementation status, up to now, about 50% of the contract volume has been completed. Due to the priority of the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project to be completed in 2025, the Government directed An Giang province to coordinate part of the sand source from Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway to Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway. From there, An Giang province decided to coordinate 1.4 million m3 of sand from 3 mines, and requested to return it from January 1, 2025.

According to the report of My Thuan Project Management Board, up to now, the localities of An Giang, Dong Thap, Vinh Long have granted the project a total of 20 river sand mines, with a total reserve of 19 million m3 (including 1.4 million coordinated from the horizontal axis).

For sea sand, 722,579m3 has been brought to the construction site, averaging 8,600m3/day.
