On the morning of November 6, Lao Dong Newspaper recorded that in Con Son (Binh Thuy Ward, Can Tho City), a section of the dike broke when the tide was high. The water from the Hau River flooded deeply, affecting many houses, fruit gardens, and fish ponds on the islet.

Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Mai Hong Su - Secretary and Head of Area 17 (Binh Thuy Ward, Can Tho City) informed that the dike breach occurred at 4:00 a.m., the broken dike section was 5m wide and 10m long, causing water to overflow at a very fast speed, leaving people unable to respond.
According to Mr. Mai Hong Su, according to initial statistics, 8 houses and 5 hectares of fruit and vegetable gardens were deeply flooded. The damage to aquaculture ponds is also very large, and it is likely that the entire body has flooded into the river.
Mr. Mai Hong Su also informed that the broken dike location was a section of the dike that was not part of the closed dike system invested by the city, but was built by the people themselves. Previously, the patrol force discovered the crack and mobilized people to reinforce and cover it, but due to the high tide, the self-standing dike could not withstand it. Although last year people reinforced this section themselves, the water level at that time was not as high as this year.

Mr. Luong Si Nam - Vice Chairman of Binh Thuy Ward People's Committee (Can Tho City) - said that the cause of the incident was due to high tides causing dike erosion. Immediately after the dike broke, the ward immediately coordinated with the Irrigation Department and the police force to deploy solutions.
The Vice Chairman of Binh Thuy Ward People's Committee stated that currently, the forces are surveying and temporarily reinforcing the area with buckwheat, and at the same time quickly assessing the damage to report to the superiors for a long-term handling plan.
