According to information from the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Tran Yen district, Yen Bai province, as of the afternoon of September 8, the entire district had 53 houses with their roofs blown off in 14 localities; destroying over 240 hectares of rice, corn, and crops.
Promoting the “four on-site” motto, localities mobilized forces to repair houses with blown-off roofs. At the same time, localities urgently evacuated 38 houses in areas at high risk of landslides to safe places.
In Van Yen, up to now, the whole district has 1,437 people living in areas at risk of natural disasters, of which 1,076 people live in areas at risk of landslides, 188 households live in areas at risk of flooding above alert level 3 and 243 households live in areas at risk of flash floods.
Faced with the complicated developments of storm No. 3 and the ongoing post-storm circulation, on the night of September 7 and September 8, the district's localities evacuated 1,314 people living in areas at high risk of flash floods and landslides to safe places; including 111 people living in flooded areas above alert level 3 and 209 people living in areas at high risk of flash floods, 994 people living in areas at high risk of landslides.
Local forces also supported people in moving their belongings, arranged temporary accommodation for households, and mobilized the cooperation of the entire community, first of all, family members and clans, to ensure the daily life of households.
"The district has implemented the policy of mobilizing and resolutely forcing households at high risk of landslides to move to safe places to ensure people's lives," said Mr. Ha Duc Anh - Chairman of Van Yen District People's Committee.
Also according to records in Nghia Lo town, the impact of storm No. 3 has caused damage to many public works, houses and agricultural production areas. To avoid human losses due to storm circulation, on September 8, the town focused on directing and mobilizing forces to organize the evacuation of 139 households out of areas at risk of landslides. In order to proactively respond to heavy rain after the storm, the town People's Committee has established 14 inspection teams, on duty 24/24 hours to grasp the situation at the grassroots level in communes and wards.
Similarly, in Van Chan district, there is currently heavy rain; the risk of flash floods, landslides is very high.
The locality has established 5 inspection teams to direct preparations for storm No. 3 in the area; organized a review of households in areas at risk of being affected by storm No. 3 to evacuate and evacuate 83 households with 331 people and their properties from high-risk areas to safe places. At the same time, it is ready with response plans to ensure the safety of people's lives and properties when situations arise.
Authorities advise people to be on guard against flash floods, landslides, and especially not to allow people to go to the stream banks to collect firewood or fish, which could endanger their health and lives. Households with houses in areas at risk of landslides should not return home immediately, but should stay at the evacuation site and wait for further notice from local authorities.
According to a quick report from the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of Yen Bai province, as of the afternoon of September 8, storm No. 3 had killed one person, damaged 439 houses, damaged more than 600 hectares of crops, and severely eroded many traffic routes. The estimated damage caused by floods in the entire Yen Bai province is about 15 billion VND.
