Recorded at noon on October 17, in the Cai River area, in Ma Lam town, Ham Thuan Bac district, Binh Thuan, flood water from Cai River rose onto the road and overflowed into dragon fruit gardens.
Due to flooding and strong currents, local authorities have cordoned off the Cai River iron bridge since early morning on October 17, preventing people and vehicles from passing through.
Nearby, a concrete road was also blocked by a fence due to the strong flow of flood water from the river flowing through the dragon fruit garden. Since the early morning of October 17, many areas in Ham Chinh commune, Ma Lam town, Thuan Hoa commune, Ham Tri commune,... in Ham Thuan Bac district have had high water levels.
Local police and militia forces have deployed plans to evacuate people from flooded areas at risk of being unsafe to other places, especially taking the elderly out of flooded areas.
People at Song Cai Bridge said that the water rose from 2am on October 17 and by 5am the same day it had risen, causing the bridge to be flooded.
According to Binh Thuan Province Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited, on the evening of October 16, there was heavy rain in the upstream area of Song Quao and Song Khan lakes, so the amount of water flowing into the lake was large.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Ho Dac Nghia - Deputy General Director of this company said that in recent days, the spillway has been released to the two reservoirs of Song Quao and Song Khan for regulation, however, due to heavy rain in recent days and rising water levels, to ensure the safety of the reservoir, the flow of water through the spillway of the two reservoirs has been increased.
Currently, local authorities and functional forces are ready for flooding situations when heavy rain continues to occur and reservoirs overflow.
