Nam Dinh currently has 9 district-level administrative units including: 1 city (Nam Dinh city) and 8 districts. Nam Dinh City is the administrative, political, economic - social, and cultural center of Nam Dinh province, with a favorable geographical location when close to the capital Hanoi. After merging the old My Loc district, Nam Dinh city was expanded to an area of 120.9km2; adjacent to Nam Truc and Vu Ban districts; Ha Nam province and Thai Binh province.




With a 72km long coastline, the large river system flowing through the Red River, Dao River, Day River, and Ninh Co River helps develop sea transportation.
According to the Nam Dinh Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the marine and coastal economic zone is oriented to become a dynamic economic zone, promoting the shift of economic structure towards industry, urban areas, services, tourism associated with sustainable agriculture and aquaculture.

In Nam Dinh province, public welfare projects, inner-city roads, green park systems, squares... have been invested in and upgraded, contributing to shaping the appearance of a green, friendly and high-quality urban area.
One of the key projects located in Loc Ha ward, Nam Dinh city that is gradually being completed is the 700-bed General Hospital Project of Nam Dinh province. The project is designed with a scale of 700 beds, including departments and rooms according to the standards of the Provincial General Hospital.
According to the Nam Dinh Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board, Nam Dinh General Hospital is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2025 and when put into operation, it will help improve and develop the local health sector. At the same time, it attracts human resources of doctors and nurses with better expertise to serve and care for people's health.


In particular, in recent years, Nam Dinh has had a breakthrough development in transport infrastructure, enhancing regional connectivity. The projects have been completed and put into operation such as: the development axis connecting the Nam Dinh province's marine economic zone with the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh expressway; Nam Dinh coastal road; canal connecting the Day - Ninh Co river...



Industrial parks that have been operating in Nam Dinh have increasingly promoted their role in economic development, attracting large investment capital including domestic investment capital and foreign direct investment capital.
Nam Dinh is also one of the leading localities in the country in building advanced, exemplary new rural areas (NTMs). As of December 2024, the whole province has 142/146 communes meeting the advanced new rural standards (97.2%); 41/146 communes meeting the model new rural standards (28.1%); 8/15 towns are recognized as meeting the civilized urban standards (53.3%).
According to Resolution No. 60-NQ/TW, dated April 12, 2025 of the 11th Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee, the three provinces of Ha Nam, Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh will merge. The name of the province after the merger is expected to be called Ninh Binh, the political and administrative center is expected to be located in Ninh Binh province.
