On March 14, the People's Committee of Buon Ma Thuot city (Dak Lak province) held a ceremony to block the construction and storage of water at the Ea Tam irrigation lake project.
Ea Tam Irrigation Reservoir is a key project of Dak Lak province as well as Buon Ma Thuot city. The project has a total investment of 1,468.5 billion VND.
Of which, 700 billion VND is invested from government bond capital and 768 billion VND from local capital and other legal sources.
When completed, the Ea Tam Irrigation Reservoir Project will ensure the regulation of over 1 million m3 of water to serve domestic water for about 25,000 people in the city and neighboring areas.
Thereby, contributing to reducing the impact of climate change, creating environmental landscapes, contributing to increasing groundwater levels in the area. This also promises to be a place to exploit tourism potential, call for investment and expand urban space around the project area.
Mr. Tran Duc Nhat, Vice Chairman of Buon Ma Thuot City People's Committee, said: "Blocking the construction flow and storing water aims to complete the entire project before the main flood in the 2025 crop".
According to Mr. Nhat, the City Construction Investment Project Management Board (representing the investor) and related units focus on organizing appraisal and approving measures to organize flow control and construction to overcome floods. Thereby, ensuring absolute safety for the project and people in the area.
"Relevant units organize the preparation and submission of appraisal and approval of natural disaster response plans for the project and downstream areas of the dam during the construction process," Mr. Nhat added.
Mr. Do Duc Thong - General Director of Dak Lak Construction Joint Stock Company (representative of the construction contractor consortium) said: "We will organize construction and installation in accordance with the design and technical documents approved by competent authorities. The construction teams will take advantage of the sunny time to work overtime and increase teams to ensure the completion of the project progress as set out".
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that the Ea Tam irrigation lake project, with a total investment of nearly 1,500 billion VND in the center of Buon Ma Thuot city, is facing many difficulties, the site clearance and construction progress have not met expectations...
The project is divided into two phases: Phase 1 (2017 - 2020) focuses on site clearance for the lake bed, roads and main items.
Phase 2 (2021 - 2024) will deploy site clearance for connecting routes, install drainage and lighting systems. However, as we have entered 2025, many items are still unfinished, affecting people's lives.
