Hot weather forecast in Ho Chi Minh City to remain in the coming week

HẠ MÂY |

According to the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Station, hot weather will continue to be maintained in the area in the coming days, with some places above 36 degrees Celsius.

In the afternoon of May 24, monitoring on satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning positioning showed that the convective cloud area is developing strongly, causing rain with thunderstorms and lightning in many neighborhoods, residential groups, and hamlets in Ben Cat ward and Binh Hung commune.

In the next 3 hours, convective clouds will continue to develop, causing showers with thunderstorms and lightning in the above area, then it is likely to expand to neighboring areas. Common rainfall is from 5-20 mm, in some places over 30 mm. During thunderstorms, people need to be wary of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind at level 5-7 (8-17 m/s). Heavy rain can also cause localized flooding in some low-lying areas.

The meteorological agency said that the current situation causing thunderstorms is due to the hot low pressure from the West expanding to the Southeast, combined with a low pressure trough with a Northwest - Southeast axis crossing the South Central Coast. Besides, the Southwest wind is operating with weak to moderate intensity over the South Sea.

In the next 24-48 hours, the low pressure trough connecting to the hot low pressure area in the West will continue to develop and expand to the Southeast. Above, the subtropical high pressure with its axis passing through the Central region remains stable, while the Southwest wind in the Southern sea area is still operating at a weak intensity.

From now until about May 27, this low pressure trough tends to be compressed and gradually move southward due to the impact of continental high pressure from the North. At the same time, wind disturbances at high altitude formed from May 25 will cause the Northwest - Southeast low pressure trough through the South Central Coast and Southern region to gradually become strong again. Southwest winds in the Southern sea area are also forecast to strengthen from around May 25.

Therefore, hot sun will continue to appear in the central and northern areas of Ho Chi Minh City in the next 24-48 hours. The highest temperature is commonly from 35-36 degrees C, in some places above 36 degrees C; the lowest humidity fluctuates from 45-50%. The hot sun concentrates from 12-16 pm daily.

This heat wave is likely to last until around May 27 and then gradually decrease. Due to the impact of prolonged hot weather and low humidity, the risk of fires and explosions in residential areas and forest fires is high. People also need to be wary of water loss, exhaustion or heat stroke due to prolonged exposure outdoors.
