The Ha Long Bay Management Board today (May 22) said that the unit has temporarily suspended the contract to anchor and operate at ports, wharves, and water areas in Ha Long Bay for the Thinh An 88 and QN-8618.
The reason is that the cruise ship Thinh An 88, QN-8618, allowed tourists to carry and use disposable plastic products that are difficult to decompose when visiting Ha Long Bay.
Previously, at 10:10 on May 20, 2025, at the point to welcome visitors to Luon Cave on Ha Long Bay, Ha Long Bay Management Board discovered that the tourist boat Thinh An 88, QN-8618 had the behavior of letting tourists travel on vehicles carry and use single-use plastic products that were difficult to decompose when visiting Ha Long Bay.
The above behavior violates the regulations on anchoring and operating at ports, wharves, and water areas in Ha Long Bay (including Bai Tu Long Bay) signed between the Ha Long Bay Management Board and Business Household Bui Van Thuy (owner of the Thinh An 88 tourist boat, QN-8618).
Therefore, the Ha Long Bay Management Board has temporarily suspended the implementation of contracts for anchoring and operating at ports, wharves, and water areas in Ha Long Bay (including Bai Tu Long Bay) for tourist ships Thinh An 88 and QN-8618 for 7 days (from May 24 to May 30, 2025).
Since September 1, 2019, the Ha Long Bay Management Board has implemented a program to reduce plastic waste in the Ha Long Bay area with the content "Do not use disposable plastic products in service and tourism activities in Ha Long Bay".
Accordingly, organizations and individuals who are operating tourism and services in the bay must commit not to use or buy and sell disposable plastic products ( cups, straws, boxes, bowls, plates, plastic bags, etc.); at the same time, replace them with environmentally friendly products when participating in tourism and service activities in the World Natural Heritage Area of Ha Long Bay; refuse to transport them for cases where customers intentionally do not comply with this regulation.
