On August 1, Vice Chairman of Tan Hung District People's Committee Le Thanh Yen said that the functional units are working to fix the iron bridge in Vinh Buu commune that was hit by a boat and became tilted and crooked .
“After the iron bridge was tilted by a boat, the District Police and the District Infrastructure Economic Department along with local authorities went to the scene to determine and investigate the cause of the incident. At the same time, work with the driver of the boat that hit the bridge. In addition, the district also quickly directed the consideration of repair solutions to ensure travel safety for people. If it cannot be fixed immediately, ferries must be arranged to transport people and goods back and forth," said Mr. Le Thanh Yen.
Previously, on the afternoon of July 31, a boat with the registration number of An Giang province had a load of nearly 40 tons, controlled by Mr. Nguyen Van Tuong (54 years old, permanent resident of Thap Muoi district, Dong Thap province) and circulated on Ngang canal, toward to Truong Xuan commune, Thap Muoi district, Dong Thap province. While moving through Vinh Buu commune, Tan Hung district, he crashed into an iron bridge across the canal in front of the People's Committee of Vinh Buu commune.
This waterway accident caused the middle span of the Ngang Canal bridge, nearly 50m long, 2m wide, with a load of 0.5 tons, to be pulled crooked, and the pillars and sides of the bridge were tilted. Half of the boat's head was stuck under the iron arch in the middle of the bridge.
After the collision, the local government installed barriers, warning signs and regulated road traffic to Provincial Road 837B to make it easier for people to travel; Waterway traffic was also instructed to move to another canal route.
