On June 9, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee said that it had requested the Ministry of Construction to consider and resolve issues related to the receipt, handover, management and operation of construction items at Phu Cat Airport.
According to Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, Phu Cat Airport plays an important role in promoting socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security for the South Central Coast region in general and Gia Lai province in particular.
Implementing the Phu Cat Airport Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the province has approved the project to invest in building runway No. 2 and synchronous works at the Phu Cat Airport bay area.
This is a key transport project to ensure safe and effective civil aviation operations, while maintaining runway No. 1 always ready to serve the combat missions of military units.
After completion, runway No. 2 will meet the operating needs of both civil and military aviation, and at the same time be ready to serve national defense and security tasks when necessary. The project contributes to improving the operating capacity of Phu Cat Airport, meeting the socio-economic development needs of the province.
Currently, the project is being implemented on schedule, ensuring quality. According to the plan, construction and equipment installation items will be completed in June 2026, and commercial operation will be carried out from July 2026.
To ensure legal conditions for handover, management and exploitation after the project is completed, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee proposed that the Ministry of Construction agree on the policy of receiving all assets of the project, as a basis for carrying out handover procedures to management and exploitation units.
At the same time, allowing the handover of each completed part/component of the project that is eligible for exploitation to shorten the time to put the project into actual operation.
The province also proposed to allow the handover of airfield area works and equipment to Vietnam Airports Corporation - JSC and AWOS meteorological system to Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation, in order to create conditions for relevant units to proactively complete dossiers and procedures and submit them to competent authorities for appraisal and approval according to regulations.
