On August 19, the Traffic Safety Committee of Gia Lai province said that in the first 8 months of 2024, Gia Lai had 338 traffic accidents, an increase of nearly 30% over the same period in 2023.
Road traffic accidents in Gia Lai are always at a high level, leading the country. The total number of traffic accidents has killed 195 people, (an increase of 6.5% over the same period in 2023); 236 people were injured (up 54% over the same period in 2023).
The reason is that on National Highways, Provincial Highways, urban bypasses... in Gia Lai province, there are still many black spots with potential risks of accidents. Especially at intersections with residential roads.
Faced with the above situation, the Traffic Safety Committee of Gia Lai province proposed that Gia Lai Provincial Police strictly handle cases of drivers speeding, overtaking recklessly, with alcohol or drug levels... to reduce the number of accidents.
The unit requests that bus operators, especially inter-provincial passenger vehicles, do not assign drivers who show signs of fatigue, lack of sleep, or poor health to drive, which will pose a potential risk of causing accidents.
In steep mountain passes, densely populated areas, bad weather, winding roads... Road Management Office III.4 (Road Management Area III) needs to be controlled and have warning signs to remind.
