On December 19, the Son Tra - Ngu Hanh Son Inter-District Forest Protection Department (Da Nang City) said that it is continuing to monitor and find a way to approach the pig-tailed macaque caught in a trap on Son Tra Mountain (Son Tra District) for rescue.
This monkey was found in distress in the Suoi Da area and was trapped in a trap on its right front leg. For the past 4 days, rangers and rescue volunteers have tried to approach it but have not been successful because the monkey has moved into the forest. Rangers are monitoring and contacting animal rescue experts to find a way to approach and remove the trap for the monkey.
According to the leader of the Son Tra - Ngu Hanh Son Inter-District Forest Protection Department, this adult pig-tailed macaque is not endemic to the Son Tra peninsula. It may have been raised by someone and released into the wild. After a long time, the individual followed the golden monkey troop to find food and was trapped.
This monkey can still walk and climb trees, so when it sees people approaching with a net, it runs away. Authorities are considering asking a veterinarian to inject it with anesthetic to rescue it. If that doesn't work, they will resort to throwing a net. The type of trap that caught the monkey is about 10cm wide, has a sawtooth shape, and is likened by many to "the jaws of the devil". Once trapped, it is very difficult for the prey to escape, and if it does escape, it will be injured.
