On the evening of May 14, the People's Committee of Dan Hoa commune (Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh province) said that there is still a long line of vehicles congested at Cha Lo International Border Gate, heading to Naphao Border Gate (Kham Muon province, Laos).
The Lao side is repairing the road, so the direction from Cha Lo International Border Gate to Laos is still not possible. Meanwhile, the direction opposite from Cha Lo International Border Gate towards Road 12A is still circulating normally.
Regarding the incident, the Cha Lo Border Gate Customs Branch informed that the road on the Lao side is under repair, so there is only one way. Today, May 14, a car from Laos will return. Tomorrow morning, the number of vehicles from Vietnam will be moved to Laos to avoid congestion.
The functional forces of the two countries are coordinating to regulate, maintain order and support traffic.
As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, since the morning of May 14, hundreds of vehicles including container trucks, trucks and cars have been stuck on National Highway 12A, near Cha Lo Border Gate. The goods are nearly 2km long, causing customs clearance activities to be almost paralyzed during the day.
The main reason was determined to be that the road from Naphao Border Gate to Laos was seriously degraded, with many sections peeling and muddy, hindering the release of vehicles from Vietnam.
The prolonged traffic jam has affected many drivers, disrupting the supply chain of goods and increasing cross-border transportation costs. Cha Lo International Border Gate is an important transit point between Vietnam, Laos and Thailand with hundreds of vehicles passing through every day.
