Ha Long City said it will propose to Quang Ninh province to allow the construction of Ha Phong Fishing Port located right on the shore of Ha Long Bay, in Ha Phong ward, Ha Long City, striving to start construction before the upcoming Party Congresses at all levels.
The total capital to build this port is expected to be around 500 billion VND. In addition to the city budget, Ha Long also hopes to have funding from the Central Government to build this fishing logistics service area and storm shelter.
Ha Phong fishing port, Ha Phong ward, Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province is included in the planning of the fishing port system and storm shelters for fishing vessels for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, approved by the Prime Minister.
Quang Ninh province also has a policy to build this fishing port, but the main problem is capital.
After the damage caused by super typhoon No. 3, the construction of Ha Phong fishing port is necessary to create stable housing conditions and improve the lives of fishermen through marine activities combined with fishing village tourism services right where they live.
If the project is invested in and built, it will contribute to improving the landscape of the area, and at the same time, the entire seafood market in Ha Long City will be moved here to ensure environmental hygiene and ecology, creating a highlight, attracting tourists to visit and experience.
In addition, this will be an ideal storm shelter, able to receive hundreds of ships and boats at the same time.
Currently, the fishing port of Ha Phong fishing village is still just a small, narrow channel with a lot of sediment, making it difficult for ships and boats to enter and exit during low water days.
Voters and fishermen in Ha Phong fishing village have repeatedly petitioned authorities to consider dredging the port, but the matter has not been resolved.
According to the people, if this port is invested in dredging and expanding, it will not only be a safe place to avoid and shelter from storms for hundreds of ships and boats, but also an economic development opportunity for residents on the surface of Ha Long Bay to move to resettlement areas in the ward.
During storm No. 3, Quang Ninh had 269 ships sunk, many of which sank at their anchorages. Currently, many ships have not been found. Although there are some storm shelters, they are not enough, so ships still have to go to Cat Ba to avoid the storm, while the number of ships in Cat Ba is also very large.
