While fishing on the Dam River, a mother and child in Tam Ky, Quang Nam drowned, suspected to have been due to a boat capsize.

On the morning of December 16, Mr. Trinh Cong Quoc - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Thang Commune, Tam Ky City - confirmed that a drowning incident had just occurred in the area, killing a mother and child.

The victims were Mrs. Chau Thi H (55 years old) and her son Vo Van D (34 years old), both living in Vinh Binh village, Tam Thang commune.

According to initial information, at around 3am on December 16, Ms. H and Mr. D rowed a boat to Dam River to cast a net. In the morning, relatives did not see them return, so they worriedly went looking for them and discovered the motorbike on the riverbank.

At around 9:00 a.m. the same day, authorities and local people found the bodies of the two victims and the capsized boat on the Dam River, in Vinh Binh village.

“In the past few days, there has been heavy rain, cold weather, and rising river water in the area. It is likely that the mother and child capsized unexpectedly and there was no time to handle the situation. Local authorities have come to encourage and visit the victim’s family. The cause of the incident is being investigated,” said the leader of Tam Thang commune.

This is the second drowning accident in just two days in Quang Nam. Previously, two fourth-grade students at Duy Chau Primary School, Duy Xuyen District were also swept away and died on December 15.
