On April 24, the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of Binh Dinh province said that while fishing at sea, two local fishermen unfortunately fell into the sea and died.
The first incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. on April 20. Fishing boat BD 97173 TS carrying 4 workers, owned by Mr. Nguyen Van Hang (born in 1966, residing in Tam Quan Bac ward, Hoai Nhon town), authorized Mr. Nguyen Van Trang (residing in the same locality) as captain, fishing for tuna. The ship departed on April 17 from Tam Quan Border Control Station (Binh Dinh Provincial Border Guard).
While the boat was operating about 97 nautical miles northeast of Song Tu Dong Island, fisherman Huynh Ngoc Thanh (born in 1977, residing in Hoai Hao ward, Hoai Nhon town) suddenly fell into the sea. Although the captain and crew members quickly rescued and performed first aid, Mr. Thanh died.
At around 5am on April 23, fishing boat BD 97173 TS brought Mr. Thanh's body to Tam Quan port. Currently, the Investigation Agency of the Provincial Police is conducting an autopsy to clarify the cause of death.
The second incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. on April 21. Fishing boat BD 93688 TS carrying 7 workers, owned and captained by Mr. Vo Ba Xuan (born in 1977, residing in Cat Hai commune, Phu Cat district), who works as a photographer. The ship departed for the port on April 17 from De Gi Border Control Station.
While fishing in the sea about 24 nautical miles southwest of Tri Ton Island, fisherman Duong Trong Hung (born in 1983, residing in Cat Thanh Commune, Phu Cat District) fell into the sea. Although the crew organized a search and pulled him onto the boat, Mr. Hung died.
The boat immediately returned to shore and docked at De Gi fishing port at 6:30 p.m. on April 22. The Border Guard of Cat Khanh Station received the incident, made a record and coordinated with the provincial police investigation agency to conduct an autopsy. At 10:00 p.m. the same day, Mr. Hung's body was handed over to his family for funeral arrangements.
