After many days of a terrible flash flood in Lang Nu village that buried 37 households with nearly 100 people, the pain of losing loved ones of the people here still cannot be overcome.
However, people have started working again to stabilize their lives.
Along with the continued search for the 13 victims still missing, the construction of a temporary housing area for the people of Lang Nu is also being rapidly implemented. The new resettlement area is arranged about 2 km away from the landslide site.
Mr. Hoang Van Vo (residing in Lang Nu village) said: “My house down there was swept away by the flood. My wife and children were also buried. They have been found and buried. I am staying at my younger brother’s house while waiting for a new resettlement area.”
According to Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuc Khanh Commune, Nong The Manh, the people of Lang Nu are gradually stabilizing their mentality and returning to their daily lives. Students have started going to school and will stay at the school as a boarding school.
During the family dinner of the brothers who lost their loved ones on the evening of September 19, Mr. Hoang Van Kien (residing in Lang Nu village) also said: "My house is not far from the stream but fortunately no one was hurt. However, many relatives such as his wife, children, grandchildren, and younger brother passed away forever on that fateful night."
“Everyone was very sad, but the dead were dead, and the living had to continue living. Therefore, family members encouraged each other to suppress their grief and go back to work and life,” said Mr. Kien.
As for Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan - who just lost his home, a child and parents after the flash flood, regaining his spirit to start over after the pain is the top priority.
"I was lucky to survive the terrible flood, but many of my relatives have not been found yet. Now, I just hope to receive support to arrange a resettlement place soon so that I and my wife and children can rebuild after the great pain and loss," Mr. Tuan said sadly.
According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters on September 19, the temporary residence of the Lang Nu people is under construction. 10 days after the flash flood, the authorities have restored electricity and water to the people. For the resettlement area, the selection of the construction site has been completed and will be completed by the end of December 2024.
According to the report of Bao Yen District People's Committee, as of September 19, the flash flood on September 10 in Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune had 52 dead, 13 missing, 87 people were confirmed safe.

Mr. Thong said that in addition to rearranging the land for people to cultivate, the government also searched for missing victims and built temporary housing areas for people to live in. After that, they will carry out long-term resettlement.
“According to the Prime Minister’s direction, new housing for the people of Lang Nu must be completed by the end of December this year. Therefore, when land is available, we are directing the unit to accelerate site clearance to bring people back to live as soon as possible,” said the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Bao Yen district.
