Implementing the peak plan to ensure traffic order and safety before, during and after the 2025 Lunar New Year, the Hanoi Traffic Police force is increasing patrols, controlling and strictly handling violations, especially behaviors and groups of behaviors that cause traffic accidents and congestion.
Among them, alcohol concentration is a violation with high potential risk of causing traffic accidents, and is also a behavior that is predicted to increase during holidays and Tet...
On the evening of January 26, the working group of Traffic Police Team No. 7 (Traffic Police Department, Hanoi City Police) deployed to control alcohol concentration on Le Van Luong - Hoang Dao Thuy route (Thanh Xuan district) - a route with high traffic volume in Hanoi these days.
During nearly three hours of duty (from 8pm to 11pm on January 26), the task force randomly tested hundreds of car and motorbike drivers for alcohol levels. The good news is that only one violation was detected.
Accordingly, at around 9 p.m., the task force discovered a young man driving a motorbike with license plate 29E1-199.XX violating alcohol concentration. Upon testing, the alcohol concentration was measured at less than 0.25 mg/l of breath.
The driver was identified as Mr. N.K.T (born in 1993). Working with the task force, Mr. T admitted that he had just attended a year-end party and had drunk a glass of beer. Mr. T expressed regret, just because of a little respect at the drinking table that led to the violation, this Tet he no longer has a means of transportation.
For the above violation, Mr. T will be administratively fined from 2 to 3 million VND, have 4 points deducted from his driving license and have his vehicle detained for 7 days as prescribed (Applying the fine in Decree 168/2024/ND-CP).
According to Major Nguyen Duc Son - Head of the Working Group, checking and handling violations of alcohol concentration not only aims to ensure traffic safety but also contributes to preventing unfortunate accidents, which often increase during holidays and Tet.
“After checking hundreds of vehicles, only one violation was detected, showing that people's awareness of compliance has improved, which is a positive sign,” Major Son shared.
However, cases like Mr. T are still a warning bell about subjectivity and lack of responsibility when driving after drinking alcohol. A little bit of respect at the year-end party can lead to unwanted consequences, not only for the individual but also for the family and society.
Hanoi Traffic Police Department recommends that during holidays and Tet, parties cannot be avoided, however, people need to strictly follow the principle "If you drink alcohol, absolutely do not drive."
Everyone needs to be aware that a safe Tet is the most meaningful gift for themselves and their loved ones. We not only protect ourselves but also contribute to building a safer and more civilized traffic scene in the first days of spring.
According to statistics, there were 53 traffic accidents nationwide on January 25, 2025. During patrols, control, and handling of violations of road traffic safety, local traffic police handled 7,855 violations, including 2,106 violations of alcohol concentration.
