Due to the influence of storm No. 3, heavy rain with total rainfall from September 6 to 9:00 a.m. on September 9 of 166.8 mm pushed a large amount of water from upstream rivers and streams to Tien Yen.
Speaking to Lao Dong, Mr. Hoang Van Sinh, Chairman of Tien Yen District People's Committee said: "This morning, the embankment (earthen dam) of the Ha Thanh irrigation project (Dong Hai commune) broke, causing flooding for 400 households in 3 villages: Ha Trang Dong, Ha Trang Tay, and Na Bac (Dong Hai commune, Tien Yen district). Previously, Tien Yen District People's Committee had organized the evacuation of all residents on the morning of September 9, before the incident occurred, so there were no human casualties.
This project is not a reservoir, just a dam on the river, so the amount of water stored is not much and currently the water is gradually receding.
Currently, the authorities are approaching the incident location. The working group of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is present at the scene and is waiting for the water to recede to approach the incident area.
The floodwaters from upstream also caused flooding on Tien Yen River, inundating many roads, many houses in residential areas and hundreds of hectares of crops.
Currently, Tien Yen district and relevant departments and agencies are actively and proactively preparing plans to respond to heavy rain, flash floods, inundation, and landslides caused by local heavy rains and arranging forces and means to respond to floods and support people in handling situations that occur during floods.
