Billion-dollar residential project on prime land in Thai Nguyen is sluggish

VIỆT BẮC |

After more than 10 years of implementation, the infrastructure construction project of Residential Area No. 1 (Thai Nguyen City) is sluggish in progress, tens of thousands of square meters of prime land are in a state of disrepair and desolation.

As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, the infrastructure construction project of Residential Area No. 1 (Residential Area No. 1), Quyet Thang Commune (Thai Nguyen City) was reported to have used a large amount of soil of unknown origin for site clearance.

The illegally exploited land area is located about 2 km from the project, in Quyet Thang commune. Mining and transportation activities have been going on for many days, mainly at night.

In addition to using land of unknown origin, the Residential Area No. 1 project, although implemented for more than 10 years with 2 adjustments and extensions, has yet to be completed.

Residential Area No. 1 Project has an area of 9.8 hectares in Quyet Thang commune, invested by Tu Son Forest Products Processing and Trading Company Limited.

Deployed since 2013 with an initial total investment of 65 billion VND, by 2019, the project was adjusted and the investment capital was supplemented up to 80 billion VND.

According to the reporter's records in mid-December 2024, this project is still just an empty lot, the technical infrastructure items are not finished, materials are lying around, weeds are growing wildly, and it is messy.

Inside, there were no workers or machines, and no signs that the project was under construction, even though the expected completion date was only a few days away.

Having a house near the project, every time it is mentioned, Mr. Nguyen Van Minh (Thai Nguyen City) cannot help but feel fed up. Mr. Minh shared that the situation of the project being abandoned and not implemented has been going on for many years.

"For more than 10 years, the company has not finished the work. During that time, I only occasionally see them stirring to fill in a little soil and then stop. Seeing tens of thousands of square meters of land left empty like that looks very wasteful and heartbreaking," said Mr. Minh.

Sharing the same sentiment, Ms. Pham Thi Quynh (Thai Nguyen City) said that in 2013, when information about the Residential Area No. 1 project was announced, people in the surrounding area were looking forward to it and hoped to enjoy the benefits that the project would bring in the future.

According to Ms. Quynh, initial expectations gradually turned to disappointment when the project progressed slowly, stagnated for a long time, and then fell into a state of desolation and squalor.

"The project has been here for a long time, I don't see them finishing it, I don't know if they will continue construction or not. I hope that the authorities at all levels will soon have a plan to complete the project soon, leaving it like this not only wastes land but also spoils the urban beauty" - Ms. Quynh shared more.

Speaking with reporters, a leader of Quyet Thang Commune People's Committee confirmed that the Residential Area No. 1 project is still unfinished and not completed.

"According to the expected time, it should be completed by December 2024, but according to the current situation and the fact that the land has not been cleared yet, it is very difficult to complete it this year. It is likely that we will have to request a fourth extension.

During the implementation process in the area managed by the locality, the commune repeatedly requested the unit to provide records and documents about the project, but the investor was very uncooperative" - this leader informed.
