Urgent evacuation of houses affected by highway construction

Quang Tri - The process of using a road roller to construct the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway caused houses to shake, walls to crack, and cement to fall and break.

Mr. Nguyen Van Song - Chairman of Gio An Commune People's Committee (Gio Linh District, Quang Tri Province) - said that on January 14, the locality received a petition for help from Ms. Hoang Thi Bon (representing Mr. Nguyen Van Xuan's household, residing in Xuan Hoa village, Gio An commune) about being affected by the construction of the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway.

Ms. Hoang Thi Bon’s family owns a house near the Van Ninh - Cam Lo highway under construction. When the construction unit used a vibrating roller, cracks appeared on the walls and cement fell into pieces. In particular, the crossbeams connecting the rooms were cracked at both ends.

Mrs. Bon is worried that the shaking will cause the house to collapse, while the family has an elderly person bedridden.

After receiving the feedback, Gio An Commune People's Committee and the investor, Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board, came to verify.

"After examination, we assessed that the house was severely affected by the shaking, and we need to have a plan to ensure the safety of people's lives," said Mr. Song.

Currently, the project investor and the Gio An Commune People's Committee and Ms. Hoang Thi Bon's family have agreed on a plan to move their property and people out of the house on January 19 to temporarily relocate. The costs of temporary residence and relocation of property will be supported by the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board for the family.

In the long term, the insurance company will make a detailed assessment, see the level of impact on the house, and then proceed to compensation and support.

In addition to Ms. Hoang Thi Bon's family, some nearby households also had cracks appear on their walls during the rolling and construction process of the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway.

According to the Gio Linh District People's Committee, the expressway investor will coordinate with the locality to remedy the damage caused to the people due to the expressway construction process. In the case of Ms. Hoang Thi Bon's family, there needs to be an early evacuation plan. If the safety of the people cannot be ensured, the locality will request to stop the construction.
