On December 2, customers who lost power in Phu Quoc special area (An Giang) were restored to power after the 110kV Ha Tien - Phu Quoc underground cable incident, in which customers in the North Phu Quoc area were supplied with alternating power.
According to An Giang Power Company (PCAG), Phu Quoc Special Area is currently supplied with electricity from two sources: 110kV line 173 Ha Tien - 172 Phu Quoc (with 110kV underground cable section Ha Tien - Phu Quoc) to supply electricity to Phu Quoc 110kV transformer station and 220kV line 220kV Kien Binh - Phu Quoc is supplying 110kV electricity to Nam Phu Quoc 110kV transformer station. These two sources have not been connected to the Circular, so when the underground cable incident occurred, it affected the power supply.

As soon as the incident occurred, PCAG leveled the supply from the 110kV Nam Phu Quoc transformer station to the 22kV medium voltage grid; mobilized large customers with self-operated generators to supply electricity to take advantage of the remaining capacity to serve customers...
Southern Power Corporation has also mobilized all mobile generators of member Power Companies to transport to Phu Quoc to increase power supply. The total number of generators mobilized to date has reached 20 units, with a power generation of about 2.5MW. These generators will be ready to provide alternating power to public transformer stations far from the source to improve voltage.
In parallel with coordinating with relevant units to handle underground cable incidents, in order to provide stable power to customers, Southern Power Corporation also directed PCAG to urgently coordinate with relevant departments, branches and sectors to temporarily build a 110kV overhead line, with about 5 pillars (from the existing underground cable connection pillars to the incident site). Currently, materials, machinery and equipment have been gathered at the site and the construction force is urgently deploying the construction of this temporary aerial line.

Previously, at an online meeting to listen to reports on how to fix power outages in Phu Quoc special zone (December 1), Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of PCAG and related units in recent days in ensuring power supply for priority loads and people's daily activities.
Mr. Mung added that fixing the problem of 110kV underwater underwater cables is complicated, taking a lot of time and resources to handle. Therefore, the leaders of the Provincial People's Committee have assigned the Department of Construction and the Department of Industry and Trade to coordinate with relevant units to urgently fix the problem, restore power to normal for Phu Quoc special zone; create all favorable conditions and necessary equipment for PCAG in the process of fixing the problem of the 110kV Ha Tien - Phu Quoc overseas underground cable.
To overcome the situation where the two power lines for Phu Quoc special zone have not been connected to a Circular, Southern Power Corporation has deployed the 110kV Phu Quoc - Bac Phu Quoc Line, 110kV Phu Quoc - Nam Phu Quoc Line, and 220kV Phu Quoc substation. However, in the past, these projects have encountered difficulties in compensation and site clearance.
As reported, at 1:45 p.m. on November 29, 2025, a 110kV 173 Ha Tien - 172 Phu Quoc power line broke out, affecting the power supply to Phu Quoc special area.
According to initial records, Thuan Thanh KG Construction Design Consulting Co., Ltd. is constructing a railing in the safety corridor of the 110kV Ha Tien - Phu Quoc underground cableline on the Ha Tien coast. The forced strengthening of the steel piles on theca floor was the cause of the problem in the 110kV underground cable section supplying electricity to Phu Quoc special area.
