On February 27, Mr. Ta Dinh Thi - Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Science, Technology and Environment - as Head of the delegation - worked with the leaders of Tien Giang province on the implementation of policies and laws on water supply and drainage in Tien Giang province, serving the review of the draft Law on Water Supply and Drainage.

According to the report of Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee, the whole province currently has 22 surface water plants under Tien Giang Water Supply Company Limited, supplying water to both urban and rural areas. In the rural water supply system alone, Tien Giang province has 511 water supply stations supplying more than 400,000 households, accounting for 96.77%.
Regarding water supply, in recent times, Tien Giang province has invested in the construction of hundreds of works to serve the supply of domestic water for people; all industrial parks and clusters have been invested in centralized water supply systems to ensure quality...
Regarding drainage and wastewater treatment, every year, localities in Tien Giang province dredge drainage channels, clear water flows and renovate and upgrade existing drainage systems to ensure drainage; in urban planning projects, there are orientations for planning centralized wastewater treatment plants; there are 3 industrial parks (Tan Huong, Long Giang, My Tho) and Gia Thuan 1 industrial cluster with complete wastewater treatment systems.Despite achieving certain results, Tien Giang province still has many limitations and problems in the process of implementing policies and laws on water supply and drainage.
Due to the large number of sparsely populated rural areas, the whole province currently has about 3.23% of rural households (about 13,370 households) having to use water from small water supply works, water from canals, rainwater...Domestic water supply for people in the eastern part of the province has not ensured enough flow and pressure; has not been able to separate rainwater drainage and wastewater drainage; there is no centralized wastewater treatment system for urban areas...
At the meeting, members of the survey team and leaders of Tien Giang province, along with representatives of the two water supply companies, had many exchanges of information on the actual situation and difficulties and problems in implementing policies and laws on water supply and drainage; at the same time, exchanged and commented on the Draft Law on Water Supply and Drainage.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Trong thanked and highly appreciated the comments, suggestions, and requests for clarification...on many issues related to the implementation of policies and laws on water supply and drainage of the survey team.Tien Giang province will continue to research to serve the development of the province in general and the water supply and drainage sector in particular.
Vice Chairman of Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Trong provided more information about the characteristics of water resources in the province; hoped that the survey team would continue to support and share with the province effective models of water supply and drainage for research and application.
Concluding the working session, Mr. Ta Dinh Thi - Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Science, Technology and Environment - requested the leaders of Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee to direct departments and branches to coordinate in completing reports on the implementation of policies and laws on water supply and drainage in the province and comments on the Draft Law on Water Supply and Drainage to send to the National Assembly for reporting.
