On December 19, the Department of Culture and Sports of Kien Giang province coordinated with the City People's Committee, the Center for Culture, Sports and Broadcasting of Phu Quoc City to organize the groundbreaking ceremony for the project to restore and embellish the special national historical relic Phu Quoc Prison.

The project is built with a budget of 50 billion VND, the expected construction time is about 300 days, from December 2024 to October 2025.
The project to renovate and embellish the Phu Quoc Prison National Historical Site covers an area of approximately 4.6 hectares. The B2 prison area will be renovated and embellished, including the construction of a martyrs memorial house, a reception house, an exhibit house, a documentary film screening house and an office building; and the B2 prison area will be renovated and repaired.
Restoration and embellishment of the Sim Hill monument; restoration and embellishment of the Kien Van church relic; restoration and embellishment of the Prisoner Cemetery relic and some other items.
Mr. Ho Dac Thuan - Director of Phu Quoc City Culture, Sports and Broadcasting Center - said: This is a project with very special meaning, very important to the development conditions of Phu Quoc City.
“The project is of great significance in preserving special national historical relics. Thereby creating conditions for propaganda and education for the younger generation as well as introducing domestic and foreign tourists to visit and learn,” Mr. Thuan emphasized.
In 2015, the Vietnam/Phu Quoc Communist Prisoner Camp was recognized as a special National Monument. This is one of the meaningful historical attractions and a red address for propaganda and education of revolutionary traditions for the younger generation. In 2024, the Vietnam/Phu Quoc Communist Prisoner Camp welcomed more than 117,000 visitors, including 5,800 delegations and more than 23,000 foreign visitors.
