Lam Dong proposes compensation for damage to dairy cows

HOÀI THANH |

Regarding the dairy cows that suffered from diarrhea and died after being vaccinated, Lam Dong province requested the vaccine supplier to compensate for damages in October 2024.

On September 25, the People's Committee of Lam Dong province requested the Central Veterinary Medicine Joint Stock Company (Navetco) to urgently coordinate with the People's Committees of Don Duong, Duc Trong, Lam Ha, Di Linh districts and Bao Loc city (Lam Dong) to organize a meeting to collect people's opinions on the level of compensation and support for dairy cows that died or got sick after being vaccinated against lumpy skin disease.

Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee also proposed to complete the compensation and support plan for livestock farmers before September 30 and pay compensation to affected people in October.

Mr. Nguyen Ha Loc, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Lam Dong province, said that as of September 9, the locality recorded over 6,330 dairy cows suffering from diarrhea after being vaccinated against lumpy skin disease. Of these, 470 cows died, causing heavy losses to farmers.

The provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development further informed that the cause of diarrhea in dairy cows was due to infection with Pestivirus tauri (BVDV type 2) after vaccination with Navet-LpVac vaccine of the Central Veterinary Medicine Joint Stock Company.

Navetco leaders then committed to fulfilling their responsibility to compensate farmers for damages.

Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that from the end of July 2024 until now, many localities in Lam Dong province have seen cases of dairy cows refusing to eat, having bloody diarrhea and then dying after being vaccinated against lumpy skin disease. Meanwhile, cows that were not vaccinated with this vaccine are still healthy.
