Lao Cai plans to resettle 16 households in dangerous areas

Lao Cai - Faced with the increasing risk of landslides expanding in Cam Duong ward, the government has made a plan to arrange resettlement to ensure the safety of the people.

In 2024, the circulation of Typhoon Yagi caused a large landslide at the foot of the Provincial Political School slope (the area behind Tung Tung residential area, Group 12 Nam Cuong), a long landslide caused many works to be skewed, the structure to break and all 22 houses to be damaged.

In 2025, storms No. 10 and 11 will continue to impact, causing the slope to slide deep towards B6 road (Mo Sinh); many sections of the concrete embankment will have large cracks, the floor and walls of 16 households will be cracked, posing many potential dangers.

On October 31, 16 households on Tung Tung Street, Group 12, were asked to move all people and property out of the area at high risk of landslides.

According to the actual inspection, the construction unit of the landslide handling project and stabilizing the slope behind Lao Cai Provincial Political School is implementing items, however, the geology of the area continues to develop abnormally.

Recorded in mid-November, the land behind the houses continued to sink and shift, some sections of the concrete embankment were broken and crooked. People have evacuated all their assets, leaving only bare walls.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thang (a resident of Cam Duong ward) shared: "This area collapsed last year, this year it continues and has spread even more. People really hope to have a stable place to live so that they do not have to flee during the rainy and stormy season".

According to the leader of Cam Duong Ward People's Committee, the evacuation was carried out on the morning of October 31 to ensure absolute safety. Households temporarily residing at relatives' houses or kindergartens.

The ward is coordinating with departments, branches and the Lao Cai Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board to invite experts to assess the stability of the embankment system.

On November 14, speaking with reporters, the leader of the Cam Duong - Hop Thanh Construction Investment Project Management Board said that the unit is urgently clearing land to soon hand over resettlement land to households to build houses.

While waiting for the official plan, the authorities are on duty 24/7, fencing and warning of dangerous areas.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Nhan - Chairman of Cam Duong Ward People's Committee said: "We are currently implementing plans to resettle people. This is a fundamental solution for people to stabilize their lives and no longer have to worry about landslides".

The Chairman of Cam Duong Ward People's Committee affirmed that the biggest priority at this time is to ensure safety and long-term stable housing for people in landslide areas.
