On the morning of February 28, during the 2026 Open Boat Race, a boat capsizing occurred on the Dong Nai River, in front of Tan Lan communal house (Tran Bien ward).
Accordingly, the boat of 1 racing team capsized, causing 12 athletes to fall into the river, the task force protecting the race of the River Fire and Rescue Police Team (under the Fire and Rescue Police Department, Dong Nai Provincial Police) approached and brought 12 athletes and vehicles participating in the race ashore safely, with no injuries.
Previously, at the 2025 boat race on the Dong Nai River, a situation also occurred where a racing boat capsized, the athletes wore full life jackets, and were then safely brought ashore by functional forces.
On the morning of February 28, on the Dong Nai River, the section belonging to Tran Bien ward, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Nai province organized the 2026 expanded boat race, attracting leading boat teams from Dong Nai province and Ho Chi Minh City to participate in exciting competitions.
Accordingly, 6 boat teams with more than 100 athletes from Ho Chi Minh City Aquatic Sports Center, Tan Uyen 1, Tan Uyen 2, Tan Trieu 1, Tan Trieu 2, Tam Hiep participated in competitions in the 500m, 1,000m qualifying and finals on the Dong Nai River. Thousands of people from Dong Nai province and Ho Chi Minh City gathered in the Nguyen Van Tri riverside road area to watch and cheer for the tournament.
