Worry about rising commodity prices during Lunar New Year

ANH HUY |

In a report sent to the National Assembly Standing Committee by the People's Petition Committee, voters were concerned about rising prices of goods due to increased demand during Tet.

Less than a month to go until Lunar New Year 2025. According to annual custom, prices of goods will increase for some essential items serving Tet. The price increase is not only due to market demand, but also pushed up by the psychology of serving Tet.

In the report on the National Assembly's petition work in December 2024 sent to the National Assembly Standing Committee recently, it was stated that voters and people highly appreciated the proactive and timely involvement of the National Assembly with appropriate decisions.

The close and drastic direction and management of the Government, Prime Minister, ministries, branches, Party committees, local authorities at all levels as well as the entire political system.

However, voters and people are still worried about some phenomena that often occur during the Lunar New Year such as increased prices of goods due to increased consumption demand; food poisoning.

The high bus fares have made people angry and made life difficult, especially for students and low-income workers who want to return home for Tet holiday...

Therefore, voters hope that the authorities need to intervene to stabilize market prices, not to let "shortages of goods and high prices happen". At the same time, they need to strengthen inspection and supervision, detect and strictly handle cases of taking advantage of Tet to increase prices suddenly, affecting people's lives.

In response to concerns from voters and people, the Petition Committee proposed that the National Assembly Standing Committee request the Government and the Prime Minister to pay attention to directing a number of contents such as the preparation of goods for the Lunar New Year in localities.

There are solutions to ensure market and price stability during the Lunar New Year to ensure supply-demand balance, stabilize the market, and contribute to economic stability.

The Ministry of Transport needs to strengthen measures to inspect and supervise the implementation of fare declaration, posting of transport fares, train and bus ticket prices according to regulations and strictly handle passenger transport businesses that increase ticket prices against regulations.

The Ministry of Health has stepped up inspection, examination, detection and strict handling of establishments violating food safety regulations, and strengthened the prevention of food poisoning, especially during the Lunar New Year.

Commenting on this issue, Chairman of the National Assembly's Economic Committee Vu Hong Thanh said that the amount of food consumed will increase significantly during the upcoming Lunar New Year. Therefore, he suggested that the authorities pay attention and strictly control it so as not to affect the health of the community and the people.
