On December 4, Mr. Le Duc Tien - Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee confirmed that the Provincial People's Committee has approved the renovation of the sidewalk on Hung Vuong Street, Dong Ha City.
The sidewalk renovation item is part of the project “Basic infrastructure for comprehensive development of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces - Quang Tri province sub-project, ADB loan”. This project is invested by the Quang Tri Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board with a total investment of 126.5 billion VND. The investment capital is ADB loan and counterpart capital of the Vietnamese Government, the project completion date is September 30, 2025.
The above project will invest in building the sidewalk of Hung Vuong Street with a total length of 5,040m, starting at Tran Hung Dao Street, ending at the North of Vinh Phuoc Bridge. The material used for paving the sidewalk is terrazzo tiles, while the pedestrian section will be paved with natural granite. In addition to the above items, there will be flower beds and green trees, drainage systems, technical trenches, and domestic wastewater drainage pipes.
The current sidewalk of Hung Vuong Street was invested in since 2003, with the main structure being cement concrete curbs and sidewalks paved with many different types of bricks. During the process of use, some sidewalk sections have deteriorated, have not been repaired, or have been repaired in a patchwork manner. In addition, people have renovated themselves, so there is a lack of uniformity, and the sidewalk level is also different.
At the end of 2022, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province asked for the opinion of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee on the investment plan for the Hung Vuong Street sidewalk renovation project. Regarding sidewalk paving, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province proposed 4 options for sidewalk paving: using Terrazzo bricks, using high-performance concrete Terrazzo bricks, using Quang Tri natural stone, Binh Dinh or Thanh Hoa natural granite. The People's Committee of Quang Tri province is leaning towards the option of paving the sidewalk with natural stone from Binh Dinh or Thanh Hoa, or stone produced in Quang Tri province. The reason for leaning towards this option, according to the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, is that natural stone has many times higher strength and does not degrade over time, reducing annual maintenance and cleaning costs.
At the same time, at the meeting of the People's Council of Quang Tri province, the issue of paving the sidewalk with natural stone or brick was also brought up for debate. Voters said that paving with natural granite would increase costs, and that capital should be mobilized to invest in other roads because in Dong Ha city, there are many roads that have not been constructed or are in disrepair.
