Initial information, at about 3:30 pm on May 24, receiving a report from the People's Committee of hamlet 2A about a thunderstorm causing the roofs of many people's houses to be blown off in the area, the Commune Military Command sent 10 officers and soldiers to the scene to coordinate with the locality to check the situation and support people to overcome the consequences of the tornado.
Initial statistics show that 15 houses were affected by the tornado.

Among these, 4 houses had their roofs completely blown off, 1 house had its front part roof blown off and 10 houses suffered minor damage. The total estimated damage is about 150 million VND.
The households whose houses were completely unroofed include Ms. Le Thi Nga, Ms. Ngo Thi Tuyet, Mr. Pham Van Teo and Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Xuyen. Mr. Vo Tan Tai's household had the front part of the house unroofed.
According to local people, the tornado occurred in a short time but strong winds, accompanied by heavy rain, caused many corrugated iron roofs to be blown away, and some household items to be damaged. Many households had to move furniture and temporarily shelter to avoid continued damage from the rain.

In the afternoon of the same day, local forces were mobilized to support people to clear the scene and reinforce the roof. There were 4 commune People's Committee officials, 4 police officers, 8 grassroots security forces and 6 members of departments, branches, and unions participating in support.
Phong Thanh Commune People's Committee said that the locality is continuing to review the damage and at the same time support households heavily affected to soon stabilize their lives.
In recent days, the weather in Ca Mau has been erratic, with heavy rain and thunderstorms in many places in the late afternoon. Functional agencies recommend that people proactively reinforce their houses, prune green trees and monitor weather forecast information to limit damage during the rainy and storm season.
