Hanoi - The "tao Bao" TBM of the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro project has dug more than 600m, and is in a complex geological location.

According to the Hanoi Urban Railway Project Management Board (MRB), the April 30 - May 1 holiday this year lasts 5 days, however, the working atmosphere at the construction site of the pilot urban railway line, Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station section (Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro) is still very urgent.

Regarding the progress of tunnel construction by TBM, according to MRB, the TBM1 "Than Toc" machine has dug 1,341m of tunnel, installed 894 tunnel lining rings and is being maintained at S10 - Cat Linh station.

Right after the 30.4-1.5 holiday, TBM1 will continue to dig the next 750m section of the tunnel to reach S11 - Van Mieu station.

TBM2 named "ta Bao" officially started from February 3, 2025, up to now, the TBM2 machine has dug 610m out of the total 4km underground of the project and installed 407 tunnel lining panels. During the holidays, the machine continues to drill the tunnel 24/7 as usual.

According to Mr. Vu The Manh - the engineering engineer of the tunnel of Hyundai contractor - Ghella, the TBM2 machine is currently going through the area of ​​Nui Truc - Van Bao street. This can be considered as the deepest area of ​​the project, where there is a very complicated geology, the area with the highest technical challenge of the project.

However, with lessons learned from the TBM1 and TBM2 machines, the TBM2 machine is achieving a stable excavation speed.

Earlier, in the process of operating TBM1 excavator, the construction unit also faced many difficulties in geological conditions. When coming to the sand and gravel geological area with high hardness, it hindered the excavation speed of the TBM1 machine. However, the construction contractor later found a technology solution to solve all these issues.

"Through the drilling process of TBM1, the contractor has gained a lot of experience and collected enough geological data as a basis for adjusting the TBM2 machine, to ensure the operation of TBM2 more smoothly and effectively," said Mr. Nguyen Ba Son - Deputy Director of the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board.

As planned, the total time from the beginning of the first TBM drill until the end of the TBM machine No. 2 is 16 months. After finishing drilling at the S12 station, TBM machines will be dismantled at this station, the auxiliary equipment system will be pulled and dismantled at S9 - Kim Ma station.

It is expected that the underground section will be completed in 2027, after which, the entire urban railway line No. 3, the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station section will be put into operation, contributing to changing the appearance of urban traffic in the capital, conveniently connecting areas and promoting green and sustainable development.
