On June 9, Ninh Chau Commune People's Committee (Quang Tri province) said that a drowning incident had just occurred in the area, killing a student.
According to initial information, on the afternoon of June 8, 3 young children including H.K. N (11 years old, residing in Tran Xa village, Quang Ninh commune, 4th grade student of Ham Ninh Primary School); H.T. L.D (11 years old) and H.T. B. H (7 years old), both residing in Phu Ninh village, Ninh Chau commune, students of Duy Ninh Primary School, invited each other to the Kien Giang River section passing through Phu Ninh village to swim.
While swimming, all 3 children unfortunately drowned. Because the area where the incident occurred was near a residential area, people discovered it and shouted for help, organizing rescue.
Two children H.T. L.D and H.T. B. H were rescued by people in time. H.K. N was found after more than 10 minutes, taken to the emergency room but did not survive.
According to local people, the Kien Giang River section passing through Phu Ninh village has experienced many drowning incidents. To date, 5 students have died in this area.
