Late on October 8, according to many local residents in Nhon Phu B ward, Thu Duc city, some roads were seriously damaged after heavy rain on the same day.
According to Lao Dong, at the beginning of Road No. 5, a large section of concrete collapsed completely below, creating a large hole. The collapsed location was in the middle of the road, about 1.5m deep, about 2m in diameter, many pieces of asphalt concrete were washed down below along with sand and gravel.
In addition to Road No. 5, some other roads such as Road No. 2, Road No. 4, Truong Van Hai Street (in Tang Nhon Phu B Ward) also collapsed and were damaged in some sections, causing danger to road users.
“As soon as the rain stopped, we saw a very dangerous sinkhole on the road. If it is not fixed in time, people will easily fall,” said Nguyen Van Tu (a resident of Tang Nhon Phu B ward, Thu Duc city).
A representative of the People's Committee of Tang Nhon Phu B Ward confirmed that some roads in the ward had subsidence. Of these, Road No. 5 was the most serious, with a deep sinkhole that could easily endanger pedestrians. Immediately after discovering the incident, the People's Committee of the ward put up barricades and reported to the Thu Duc City Infrastructure Development Center for a solution.
On the night of October 8, staff from the Thu Duc City Infrastructure Development Center came to survey and propose a solution to deal with the deep subsidence on Road No. 5.
The People's Committee of Tang Nhon Phu B Ward also proposed to prioritize fixing the problem here first.
Regarding the cause of the road subsidence, the People's Committee of Tang Nhon Phu B Ward said that it could be due to the sandy soil in the area. "Over a long period of time, some areas were eroded, the sand and soil underneath the road surface were washed away, gradually forming holes. During the rain yesterday, October 8, a large amount of water flowed strongly... causing the asphalt road surface to collapse, leading to a deep subsidence," said a representative of the People's Committee of Tang Nhon Phu B Ward.
In addition, the mouths of manholes are lower than the road surface. When it rains, water accumulates, causing erosion over time; the water gradually seeps away the sandy soil below, creating holes... which is also the cause of subsidence.
Recently, similar incidents have often occurred in Tang Nhon Phu B ward, some places were minor, some were serious, but the ward has coordinated to promptly fix and maintain some routes such as Road No. 14, Road No. 8, Dinh Phong Phu...
"Fortunately, in the road collapse incident this afternoon, we have not recorded any cases of people being affected," said a representative of the ward People's Committee.
Information from the Thu Duc City Infrastructure Development Center said that the unit sent specialized departments to inspect and handle the incident at night to ensure traffic flow for road users.
