Heavy thunderstorms, hail in Quang Ninh

Nguyễn Hùng |

Quang Ninh - The old Ha Long City area at around 1:30 p.m. today (July 19) had very heavy thunderstorms and hail.

Immediately after heavy rain with strong winds, hail appeared. Outside the streets in Ha Lam ward, hail appeared, mainly larger than the head of the stick.

The pouring hail sounded brilliantly on the corrugated iron roofs. Many houses still opened their windows, and small hail flooded into their houses. The hail will last about 10-15 and stop when the rain and wind have stopped.

Meanwhile, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, during the day and tonight (July 19), Typhoon Di Wipha will move rapidly west-northwest at a speed of 20-25km/h, likely entering the East Sea, about 740km east-southeast of the Lusian Peninsula (China). The strongest wind near the storm center is level 10 (89-102km/h), gusting to level 12.

During the day and night of July 20, Typhoon Wipha will maintain its speed and direction of movement, but its intensity is still likely to strengthen.

At 1:00 a.m. on July 21, the center of the storm was about 220 km east of Zhou Peninsula (China), with the storm currently at level 11 (103-117km/h), gusting to level 14.

Day and night on July 21, the storm will remain in the same direction as moving west-northwest, possibly sweeping through the northern area of the Lusi Peninsula (China) and then moving along the northern coast of the Gulf of Tonkin and towards Mong Cai (Quang Ninh).

It is forecasted that at 1:00 a.m. on July 22, the center of the storm will be right near the border of Guangxi (China) and Mong Cai (Vietnam), the storm intensity will remain at level 11.

The storm will then move westward, moving deep into the mainland of the Northeastern provinces and gradually weakening.

Due to the influence of storm Wipha, in the eastern sea area of the North East Sea from the afternoon of July 18, there will be strong winds of level 6-7, gusts of level 9, waves 2.5-3.5m high.
