On the morning of June 9, moderate to heavy rain appeared in Lai Chau province, with locally very heavy rain.
On Provincial Road 135, landslides occurred at Km10+200, causing traffic jams; Km9+40 and Km22+200 are at risk of taluy landslides.
On National Highway 12, sections at risk of landslides and falling rocks include: Km26+900 to Km28+350; Km32+500 to Km34+450; Km89+450 to Km89+900.
Localized flooding also occurred at Km423+500 National Highway 32 and Km5+200 National Highway 4D.
According to Lai Chau Provincial Police, the volume of soil and rock sliding down the road surface not only causes traffic congestion but also directly threatens the safety of people and vehicles passing through.
Functional agencies recommend that people limit travel through areas at risk of landslides and flooding when not really necessary. Slow down, maintain a safe distance and pay attention to observation when traveling on mountain roads.
The meteorological agency forecasts that in the next 24 to 48 hours, Lai Chau province will have moderate rain, heavy rain, in some places very heavy rain, common rainfall of 50 - 100mm, in some places over 130mm. In thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.
