On the evening of March 6, at Hung Vuong Square (Bac Lieu city, Bac Lieu province), the opening ceremony of the Vietnam - Bac Lieu Salt Craft Festival in 2025 took place with the theme "Hundred-year Journey of Salt Carrography - People's Life" with the theme "Enhancing the value of Vietnamese salt grains".
Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha also led and former leaders of the Party, State, leaders of provinces in the Mekong Delta region, along with many artisans, businesses, farmers, and people inside and outside the province to attend.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha highly appreciated the leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province for organizing this very meaningful event.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that although the salt grains are small, they are crystallized from the quintessence of heaven and earth, of humanity. The salt industry has many ups and downs but has been maintained by the people until now.

In the coming time, on behalf of the Government, the Deputy Prime Minister requested ministries, departments, branches and coastal localities, especially localities with conditions and traditions for salt production, to pay more attention to supporting the development of the salt production industry in particular and the value chain of products closely related to salt, contributing to the development of the salt industry not only in production but also in developing tourism related to salt.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested that it is necessary to promote the effective implementation of the "Salt Industry Development Project for the period 2021 - 2030" according to Decision No. 1325/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister. Along with that, the agricultural and environmental sector and localities need to pay attention to developing planning and land protection plans for salt production.

The Deputy Prime Minister also suggested that localities pay attention to investing in upgrading salt production infrastructure, especially in key production areas, transitioning to large-scale, high-tech production models; promoting the application of science and technology, improving production methods to improve salt quality, meeting the requirements of industrial and export industries.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha hopes that after this festival, the Bac Lieu salt industry in particular and the Vietnamese salt industry in general will have a change to a new era of development, an era where the salt industry is not associated with the thinking of being the most arduous profession, the profession with the lowest income but will switch to a salt-making profession that can live and get rich from the salt industry.
Previously, in his opening speech, Mr. Pham Van Thieu - Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee - emphasized that Bac Lieu salt is not only an essential spice in daily meals, but also a product imbued with the cultural, historical and economic values of the locality.

With outstanding quality, pure white salt grains, rich saltiness, Bac Lieu salt has conquered the taste of consumers, is widely consumed domestically and exported to some countries. Typically, traditional Korean kimchi dishes mostly use Bac Lieu salt to prepare, creating a delicious and famous flavor.
"Salt making in Bac Lieu has a long history, formed and developed through many generations, starting from the early 20th century, when people opened up coastal land. At that time, Bac Lieu was considered the "salt capital" of Vietnam," the Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee shared.

The Vietnam - Bac Lieu Salt craft festival in 2025 will take place from March 6 to March 8.
