The compensation and support for dairy cows in Lam Dong that got sick and died after being vaccinated with Navet-LpVac lumpy skin disease vaccine has yet to reach a final result.
The supplier of the Navet-LpVac vaccine is Navetco Central Veterinary Medicine Joint Stock Company (Navetco). This company offers the following compensation and support levels: Compensation of VND55,000/kg of live cattle; VND60,000/kg of pregnant heifers; VND65,000/kg of non-pregnant breeding cows and VND70,000/kg for pregnant breeding cows.
For cows that die due to self-treatment by the farmer, with confirmation from the government, the support level is from 7 to 10 million VND/cow. For sick dairy cows, Navetco offers support for treatment costs and damages from 1 to 6 million VND/cow.
The above compensation plan has caused many farmers to disagree because the price is low, not enough money to reinvest in livestock development. Therefore, people are proposing to increase the compensation value.
Mr. Nguyen Duy Thanh (residing in Bong Lai village, Hiep Thanh commune, Duc Trong) said: "We request the company to increase the compensation level for non-pregnant cows to 100,000 VND/kg; pregnant cows to 110,000 VND/kg; and breeding cows to 120,000 VND/kg."
According to Mr. Thanh, with the company's compensation price, farmers cannot buy another cow to continue milking.
"Currently, the price of a mother cow is around 60 - 65 million VND. However, most of the dairy cows have been vaccinated and are infected, so we do not dare to buy them," said Mr. Thanh.
In addition, people do not agree with the company's compensation calculation plan from the date of the first case to September 26.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Loan (residing in Bong Lai village, Hiep Thanh commune) said that the company's calculation until September 26 was not satisfactory. Because after vaccination, the cows still suffered from long-term effects, affecting the next generations.
Mr. Pham Phi Long, Manager of Lam Dong Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Aquaculture Branch, said that people did not agree with the company's proposal because they thought it was too low.
Currently, Lam Dong provincial authorities have requested Navetco to review and adjust the price appropriately and compensate the people soon.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that in Lam Dong province, a herd of dairy cows had diarrhea and died after being vaccinated.
The Department of Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development concluded that the cause of diarrhea in dairy cows was due to infection with Pestivirus tauri (BVDV type 2) after vaccination with Navetco vaccine. To date, 550 dairy cows have died.
