On September 30, the leader of the Lam Dong Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Aquaculture Branch said that the authorities had organized a meeting with dairy farmers to agree on a compensation plan for damages.
Navetco Central Veterinary Medicine Joint Stock Company (Navetco), the supplier of the Navet-LpVac lumpy skin disease vaccine, has proposed a compensation level but people do not agree.
Accordingly, Navetco offers compensation of VND55,000/kg of live cattle; VND60,000/kg of pregnant heifers; VND65,000/kg of non-pregnant breeding cows and VND70,000/kg for pregnant breeding cows.
For cows that die due to self-treatment by the farmer, with confirmation from local authorities, the support level is 7 - 10 million VND/cow.
Navetco also offers support for treatment costs and damage costs of 1-6 million VND/cow for sick dairy cows. The time for calculating compensation is determined from the date of the first case to September 26.
Mr. Pham Phi Long, Manager of Lam Dong Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Aquaculture Branch, said that because people did not agree with the above compensation level, Lam Dong provincial authorities requested Navetco to consider, adjust, and compensate people soon.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that Lam Dong authorities had organized vaccinations against lumpy skin disease in buffaloes and cows in districts and cities from July 22 to 31.
To date, more than 31,000 doses have been administered, including 10,000 doses administered to dairy cows.
According to people's feedback, after 7-10 days of injection, dairy cows showed signs of weakness, stopped eating, coughed, foamed at the mouth, had bloody diarrhea and died.
Currently, Lam Dong province's agricultural sector has recorded that 550 dairy cows across the province have died.
