After 2 days of the storm that damaged hundreds of households in Hoang Phu and Hoang Giang communes, Thanh Hoa province, many families still cannot help but feel scared when recalling the moment the storm hit when thousands of people were sleeping.
Luckily still kept her life
Sharing with PV of Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Dang Thi Dung (born in 1996, residing in Phuong Mao village, Hoang Giang commune, Thanh Hoa) said that up to now, she and her family are still shocked after the thunderstorm in the early morning of September 29.
Ms. Dung said that luckily that day, her two young children were sent to their grandparents' house (usually she and her two children slept on the 2nd floor of her mother's house), so she was alone at her parents' house. "I don't know why, I couldn't sleep all night. Normally, my 3 mother and I sleep on the 2nd floor, but that day I went to the level 4 house to sleep with my parents. At around 3am, after falling asleep for a few minutes, suddenly I heard a loud noise, everything collapsed. When I was tinh, I saw an iron bar hitting my head hard, looking at my parents' place, I saw their grandparents also buried in the rubble. At that time, I realized that the entire second floor had collapsed into a level 4 house" - Ms. Dung recalled.
According to Ms. Dung, at that time she could only call for help in the dark, amidst the continuous gusts of wind. Fortunately, after a while, she and her parents were approached by relatives and authorities, taken out and transferred to the hospital for emergency care.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Luu (born in 1977, Ms. Dung's biological mother) said: "At that time, my husband and I were paralyzed and our daughter did not know how to cope, because the brick wall was crushed on us and there was a lot of blood flowing. When all three of us were rescued and taken to the emergency room by the authorities, I believed I was alive. If it were not for the level 4 crossbar, we would probably have been crushed.
Billion-dollar VND soars in the wind
Unlike the life-and-death obsession of Ms. Dung's family, Mr. To Van Thuyen (born in 1981, Phuong Mao village, Hoang Giang commune) suffered another great loss: the entire muscle he had built for nearly half of his life suddenly disappeared.
Mr. Thuyen said that in September 2024, his family invested nearly 10 billion VND to build a mini supermarket in the commune center. When business was going well, in just a few minutes, the storm swept everything away.
"I could not imagine a family supermarket with a solid iron frame, but in just a few minutes of rain and wind, it was flat. Thousands of square meters of goods and equipment are now left with only the foundation" - Mr. Thuyen sadly said.
According to Mr. Thuyen, after the tornado, his family is facing the pressure of mounting debt. The dream of investing and rebuilding the supermarket as before is becoming increasingly distant.
According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, the thunderstorm in the early morning of September 29 not only destroyed Phuong Mao village but also many other villages of Hoang Giang and Hoang Phu communes, with hundreds of households suffering damage.
Late afternoon on October 1, in the two communes of Hoang Giang and Hoang Phu, there was still a noisy but sad atmosphere. Many households are having to pick up and sell broken corrugated iron sheets, collect curved iron bars and bricks for reuse - as a way to scrap the ball for the arduous journey of reconstruction, and it is not known when it will return to normal as before.
