On May 24, the Forest Protection Department of Region V received a dried sand turtle individual (scientific name Cuora mouhotii) voluntarily handed over by Ms. Dinh Thi Kien, sub-area Cang, Phu Yen commune, Son La province.
Previously, while harvesting rice in the rice field area belonging to the Cang sub-area (Cang village, former Quang Huy commune), Ms. Kien discovered a turtle individual and proactively contacted the forest rangers to hand it over according to regulations.
After receiving it, the forest rangers will conduct a health check on the turtle individual, complete the necessary procedures and release it back to its natural environment according to regulations.
The voluntary handover of wildlife by people contributes to raising awareness of protecting rare species and biodiversity conservation in the locality.
