On December 9, the People's Committee of Saigon Ward (HCMC) coordinated with the Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Department (PCCC) and the Ward Police to inspect fire prevention regulations in old apartment buildings, especially focusing on items of escape routes expanded with iron cages, also known as "tiger cages".
At the inspection, the working group recorded a significant positive change: most households complied with fire prevention and fighting regulations and proactively dismantled them, creating separate paths from "tiger cages" and fixed door frames. Many apartments in the apartment building have removed fixed iron frames to ensure safety of escape.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung (residing in Saigon ward) said that he could not help but worry after hearing about many fires that have led to death in the past. "My family has always proactively equipped fire protection equipment such as poison masks, mini fire extinguishers, etc., especially the escape route with iron cages, I have also proactively dismantled it," Mr. Hung shared.
The authorities have visited each house and apartment to check and remind, and at the same time propagate fire prevention measures and escape methods when an incident occurs. However, the good news is that the fire prevention and fighting work has received attention from the people, who are clearly aware of the dangers, proactively implementing and supporting the work of local authorities.
In addition to dismantling the iron frame and clearing the escape route, many households also cleaned up flammable items, blocked the escape route and equipped with additional tools and rope ladders to escape if a fire or explosion occurred.
The working group also requested some people who have not yet created an escape route on balconies and windows to sign a commitment to do so as soon as possible to protect the safety of themselves and their families.
Saigon Ward said it will continue to coordinate with relevant units to support people to clear escape routes in their homes through windows, iron frames, and "tiger cages" as soon as possible, while at the same time, strive to propagate to each neighborhood and each person about ensuring fire safety.
