The investment project to build, renovate and expand 5 key intersections in Ninh Kieu district was approved by Can Tho City People's Committee in November 2023.
The 5 intersections to be renovated include: intersection No. 1 (Mau Than - 3/2 - Tran Hung Dao); intersection No. 2 (Mau Than - Nguyen Van Cu - Vo Van Kiet); intersection No. 3 (Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Van Cu); intersection No. 4 (Nguyen Van Linh - 3/2) and intersection No. 5 (Nguyen Van Linh - 30/4). The project has a total investment of more than 1,196 billion VND from the State budget, assigned to the People's Committee of Ninh Kieu district as the investor.
The project has two phases, with implementation time not exceeding 4 years from the date of project approval. In which, phase 1 will expand the intersection at the same level, controlled by traffic lights, arrange independent right turns, with the following items: renovation, expansion of 5 intersections, sidewalks, trees, public lighting system, rainwater drainage system, fire protection water supply system, traffic signals... Phase 2 will consider arranging overpasses or underpasses according to traffic needs.
In 2023-2024, priority will be given to implementing the two intersections with high traffic volume, intersection No. 1 and intersection No. 4. In 2025, the next intersections will be implemented in accordance with regulations. When necessary, the project will be adjusted accordingly.
Mr. Lu Quoc Viet - Director of the Project Management and Land Fund Development Board of Ninh Kieu District (Can Tho City) said that currently, the procedures have been completed and the bidding for the construction of 2 intersections in the inner city area has been organized. However, they are still waiting for people to continue handing over the land.
According to Mr. Lu Quoc Viet, it is impossible to urge people to hand over the land near Tet. Therefore, after Tet 2025, the unit will mobilize and request people to hand over the land to start construction. The construction start date will be postponed to the first quarter of 2025 instead of mid-December 2024.
Intersections No. 1 and No. 4 of the Project to renovate and expand 5 key intersections in Can Tho City have a land area of about 6.1 hectares; about 160 households and organizations are affected (intersection No. 1 has about 112 households and 10 organizations; intersection No. 4 has about 38 households); it is expected that about 45 resettlement sites will be arranged (intersection No. 1 has about 30 sites, intersection No. 4 has about 15 sites).
Regarding resettlement locations, the planned Ninh Kieu Resettlement Area, An Binh Resettlement Area and the Resettlement Area on both sides of Nguyen Van Cu Street are expected to be approximately VND801.83 billion for the two intersections (over VND698.83 billion for intersection 1 and about VND103 billion for intersection 4).
The project's objective is to expand and build intersections to meet current and future traffic demands, reduce traffic congestion; build modern intersections, contribute to improving urban aesthetics, and develop the economy and society of Ninh Kieu district in particular and Can Tho city in general...
