National Highway 29 is seriously degraded
Actual research shows that National Highway 29 connecting Dak Lak and Phu Yen provinces is currently a grade IV mountainous road. This route has a road surface width of 5.5m to 16m, mainly made of asphalt concrete and asphalt gravel. However, many sections on the route are seriously degraded, with many potholes, causing traffic insecurity.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Khanh, a truck driver based in Dak Lak, shared: I often transport agricultural products from Buon Ma Thuot city to Phu Hoa district (Phu Yen). In the past three years, many sections on National Highway 29 have been severely damaged. When it is sunny, the dust flies everywhere, and when it rains, the water stagnates in the elephant pot, causing the vehicle to move very slowly. Some trips take up many more hours, greatly affecting delivery and causing damage to businesses".
According to Decision No. 1454/QD-TTg dated September 1, 2021 of the Prime Minister approving the road network planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, National Highway 29 has a total length of nearly 300km, passing through the two provinces of Phu Yen and Dak Lak, with the starting point at Vung Ro Port (Phu Yen) and the end point at Dak Rue Border Gate (Dak Lak).
Hope the Central Government will soon allocate funding
According to research, in the immediate future, the authorities of the two provinces are studying different options for upgrading this national highway in the direction of being as efficient and economical as possible. The road is designed with technical standards to ensure compliance with corresponding terrain, geological and hydrological conditions. The minimum investment scale must be a level III road with a design speed of 60 to 80km/h, the road surface must have 2 to 4 lanes.
Mr. Truong Cong Thai - Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee - said: "The upgrading of National Highway 29 connecting Dak Lak and Phu Yen is about 180km long, expected total investment is more than VND 10,000 billion, 4 lanes. Currently, the Department of Construction of 2 provinces is exchanging to complete the report to the People's Committee of the provinces before submitting to the Central Government for approval. Thus, connecting forests and the sea, creating favorable conditions for people to travel, trade goods, promote socio -economic two localities ".
Mr. Le Tan Ho - Permanent Vice Chairman of Phu Yen Provincial People's Committee affirmed: "National Highway 29 is an important route connecting Phu Yen and Dak Lak, and is also connected with strategic traffic axes including seaports, dry ports, airports, railways and international border gates. If upgraded systematically, this will be the most favorable national highway to develop economic corridors and trade goods between the South Central Coast and Central Highlands regions".
