From the evening of December 15 to the early morning of December 16, reservoirs in Khanh Hoa province discharged floodwaters simultaneously, causing floodwaters to rise rapidly and cause localized flooding in some areas of Nha Trang.
Accordingly, in recent days, in Khanh Hoa province in particular and Nha Trang city in general, there has been prolonged rain. The rain combined with the release of floodwaters from Suoi Dau, Dac Loc, Am Chua, Ta Ruc and Da Den lakes has caused the Cai River to rise rapidly since the evening of December 15.
In Nha Trang City alone, October 23rd Street passing through Vinh Thanh and Vinh Ngoc communes is submerged in water.
Although many people received warning notices from the government, they were somewhat passive because the flood water rose high and suddenly.
As in the case of Mr. Tran Van Son (residing in Vinh Thanh ward), the water level rose so high that the egg warehouse in Vinh Thanh commune was flooded. Immediately, Mr. Son's family members moved the eggs and household appliances to higher ground.
Currently, for deeply flooded areas, authorities have set up cordons and set up checkpoints to warn people and regulate traffic.
According to the South Central Region Hydrometeorological Station, from the afternoon of December 15, the flood on Cai Nha Trang River rose rapidly, the water level measured at 5:00 p.m. the same day at Dong Trang hydrological station was 9.49m, 0.01m below alert level 2; at Dien Phu hydrological station it was 5.57m.
It is forecasted that in the next 24 hours, the flood on Cai Nha Trang River will continue to rise and peak tonight.
Weather forecast for tonight and early tomorrow morning, Khanh Hoa province will continue to have rain in many places, locally with moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms.
On the same day, to ensure reservoir safety, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee discharged water to regulate 5 reservoirs: Suoi Dau, Dac Loc, Am Chua, Ta Ruc and Da Den, with the maximum regulated flow of each reservoir being 15 - 90m³/s.
