Many sophisticated tricks to smuggle dirty food into the market

In Dak Lak province, the situation of businesses selling products such as food, toys... of unknown origin to the market is becoming increasingly complicated.

Subjects and businesses have many sophisticated methods and tricks to deceive authorities.

According to statistics from the Dak Lak Provincial Market Management Department, in the first 9 months of 2024, the Market Management Teams and the E-commerce Working Group handled 85 violations with a total amount of money collected for the State budget of nearly 1.7 billion VND. In the third quarter of 2024 alone, Dak Lak provincial authorities inspected and handled 16 violations of goods of unknown origin, imposing administrative fines of more than 197 million VND. The value of goods forced to be destroyed was more than 340 million VND.

For example, recently, Market Management Team No. 1 (under the Market Management Department of Dak Lak province) supervised the destruction of more than 2,300 children's toys, moon cakes, and red apples of unknown origin. The above shipment was identified as belonging to a business household on Giai Phong Street (Tan Thanh Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City).

At the time of the inspection, the inspection team discovered that the business was selling food of unknown origin and without an expiration date. The business owner could not present invoices or documents proving the legality of the goods.

Regarding the current situation of businesses selling products such as food, toys... of unknown origin, Mr. Vuong Minh Son - Deputy Director of the Market Management Department of Dak Lak province commented: "With the development of technology, diverse payment methods, selling goods on the e-commerce environment is also quite easy. From there, it leads to the fact that many subjects often do not have a business registration, do not have a specific business address".

According to Mr. Son, it is very difficult for authorities to identify warehouses containing goods. Usually, goods are scattered, small, and hidden in many places. There are even establishments that only sell goods through collaborators, intermediaries... After that, the parties deliver the goods and pay according to the agreement, completely mysteriously. This makes it very difficult for authorities to control and identify evidence to fight and handle.

Mr. Mai Manh Toan - Director of Dak Lak Province Market Management Department - said: "From now until the end of the year, the unit will continue to strengthen inspection and strictly handle violations of price listing, counterfeit goods, banned goods, goods violating intellectual property, smuggled goods, goods of unknown origin... In particular, the unit will focus on inspection, detection and handling of violations related to petroleum business activities and focus on some key items (gold, medical supplies, agricultural supplies, construction materials, cosmetics...).

“At the same time, we will also tighten the management of civil servants and workers to avoid violations of the law on public ethics, communication culture, and administrative discipline. Any officials and civil servants who violate the law will be strictly punished,” Mr. Toan affirmed.
