Nghe An – The locality urgently evacuated 5 households in Muong Tip commune (Ky Son) due to a crack longer than 100m on the mountain.

On October 25, speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Tho Ba Re - Vice Chairman of Ky Son District People's Committee (Nghe An) said that the mountain in Xop Phe village, Muong Tip commune just had a large crack running horizontally, hundreds of meters long.

"Due to the mountain cracking, the locality mobilized forces to urgently evacuate 5 surrounding households at risk of being affected," said Mr. Tho Ba Re.

Previously, on the evening of October 22, residents of Xop Phe village were startled by a loud explosion on the hillside next to Provincial Road 445. Immediately afterwards, residents checked and discovered several cracks 10cm wide, about 40cm deep, and more than 100m long running through the foundations of houses, so they reported it to the authorities.

Upon receiving the news, the authorities of Ky Son district went to the scene to inspect and assessed this as a very serious incident, with a potential risk of landslides.

Dozens of police officers, border guards, and militiamen have coordinated with local authorities to urgently evacuate five households with 26 people living at the foot of the mountain. There are currently two houses that have not been demolished yet, expected to be completed in the next few days.

According to Mr. Tho Ba Re, the mountain crack in Xop Phe village shows signs of spreading and deepening, so people cannot return to their old place of residence.

The district assigned Muong Tip commune to arrange for affected households to live with other families. In the coming time, land in resettlement areas in the region will be checked to arrange new housing.

The locality is assigning people to monitor and assess the extent of the landslide, and if necessary, will evacuate other households within the affected area.
