After many times of organization but not achieving the desired results, Ninh Kieu walking street will officially resume operations on the evening of November 29, bringing an airy, friendly space, serving people and tourists and creating a tourist highlight for Can Tho city. The City People's Committee has approved the proposal of the Ninh Kieu Ward People's Committee, allocating more than 1 billion VND from the budget to maintain the operation of the street.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Hoai - Vice Chairman of Ninh Kieu Ward People's Committee said that the reorganization of the walking street aims to create a safe, airy and unique night cultural space, contributing to improving the spiritual life of the people. At the same time, the walking street will increase tourism attraction, extend the length of stay of tourists and boost the night-time economy.
Developing a walking street is an important solution to make tourism a spearhead economic sector, promoting the image of a civilized and modern Can Tho, while creating momentum for trade, services and attracting investment, contributing positively to the local economy, Mr. Nguyen Anh Hoai emphasized.
The ward also recommended that the city continue to upgrade infrastructure, landscape and increase connection between the walking street and neighboring tourist attractions, creating an attractive community living space.
Cultural researcher and composer Nham Hung commented that the success of the walking street does not lie in the scale or noise, but in the quality and identity of the type of activity.
Mr. Nham Hung stated that walking streets need to be a light cultural - entertainment space, different from large-scale art performance stages, so activities must be selected appropriately to create novelty and appeal.
According to Mr. Nham Hung, walking streets should focus on the need for light shopping, art enjoyment and shopping for souvenirs, instead of becoming a place to sell household appliances like a "market".
"We must organize scientifically and disciplinedly to keep the walking street true to its cultural - entertainment nature. If business is spread, the space will turn into a messy fair, losing its identity and original purpose, emphasized Cultural researcher and composer Nham Hung.
Tourists are excited, traders expect business to be smooth
As a tourist coming to Ninh Kieu for the second time, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Vy (An Giang province) shared that the walking street located right next to the Hau River and Can Tho River is very airy and convenient for walking around, enjoying light food, shopping for handicrafts and souvenirs.
Ms. Kieu Vy hopes that the walking street will be maintained regularly and develop more typical cultural activities, both entertaining and helping tourists experience local culture, contributing to enriching the city's tourism.
Not only tourists, but also traders on the street are happy when the walking street returns. Ms. Le Thi Hong (a trader specializing in selling snacks on Hai Ba Trung Street) said that the space is airy and convenient for displaying and welcoming guests. The walking street will resume operations, the number of visitors will be larger, revenue will increase, helping to improve the family economy and stabilize life.
Many other traders also said that they hope the walking street will be maintained regularly, both creating business conditions combined with entertainment and cultural activities, serving tourists, contributing to the vibrant nature of the walking street and promoting local tourism.
Activities are held from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., on Saturdays and Sundays in November and December. The opening ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. on November 29, 2025, at Ba Ngon Lightroom stage, Hai Ba Trung street, Ninh Kieu ward.
