Phu Yen strives to help ethnic minority areas escape poverty

On September 27, Phu Yen province organized the 4th Congress of Ethnic Minorities in 2024 with the theme "Ethnic groups unite, innovate, create, promote advantages, potentials, integrate and develop sustainably".

According to Mr. Truong Van Phuong - Head of Ethnic Minorities of Phu Yen province, to achieve the set goals, the province will mobilize and integrate all resources to develop the socio-economic areas of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas; continue to preserve good traditional cultural values ​​and identities, eliminate some backward customs and practices, pay attention to the fields of education and training, and take care of people's health.

"Phu Yen is determined not to let hostile forces take advantage of democracy, human rights, ethnicity, and religion to incite, entice, and divide the great solidarity of ethnic groups," said Mr. Phuong.

The Congress set out the goals and tasks of ethnic work from now until 2029 as continuing to effectively implement social security programs and policies to improve infrastructure, improve people's material and spiritual lives; strive to help ethnic minority and mountainous areas escape poverty and develop sustainably.

By 2029, the average income of ethnic minorities will be from 70-73 million VND/year; poor households will be reduced to below 12%; 60% of communes in ethnic minority and mountainous areas will meet new rural standards; 100% of villages and hamlets will have cultural houses and community activities.

At the congress, Secretary of Phu Yen Provincial Party Committee Pham Dai Duong hoped that ethnic minorities in the whole province would continue the fine traditions of the Vietnamese ethnic community, promote the spirit of self-reliance, solidarity, love and mutual assistance; trust in the leadership, management and administration of the Party, State, and local Party committees and authorities at all levels...

Deputy Minister, Vice Chairman of the Ethnic Committee Y Thong requested Party committees at all levels, authorities, socio-political organizations, cadres and Party members of the province to thoroughly grasp the viewpoints, policies and guidelines of the Party and State on ethnic work, great national unity and ethnic policies.

"Localities need to focus on training, fostering, and developing human resources, especially ethnic minority cadres; socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas must be combined with ensuring national defense and security. Conflicts and problems arising at the grassroots level must be resolved promptly, contributing to creating consensus in villages, hamlets, and residential areas...", Deputy Minister, Vice Chairman of the Ethnic Committee Y Thong noted.

On this occasion, collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in ethnic work in the period of 2019 - 2024 were awarded. Of which, 3 collectives received Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister; 1 collective and 5 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Committee for Ethnic Affairs; 9 collectives and 18 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the People's Committee of Phu Yen province; 4 individuals received the Medal "For the cause of ethnic development".
